Turkish Coffee Culture

Turkish Coffee Culture

Turkish coffee isn’t about the coffee bean or the coffee itself, it is defined by how it is made, how it is served, and how it is being enjoyed.

 “Turkish Coffee is an excuse for a conversation”

Turkish people don’t drink coffee to stay awake or get ready for work. It is a social and relaxing activity. Not something you drink by yourself and take it for to-go. If you have gossip to share with your friends, family, or neighbors, you call them and say let’s have coffee, instead of “I have something to tell you”. They also only drink Turkish coffee on a full stomach, after a meal.

How to order Turkish Coffee?

When ordering Turkish coffee, they would ask you how much sugar you want just like boba tea.

None = You can drink it without sugar especially sometimes they come with sweet Turkish Delight

Little sugar = a pinch of sugar.

Medium = 1 sugar cube.

A lot = 2-3 sugar cubes.

How to make Turkish Coffee?

Turkish coffee’s main ingredients are finely ground dark-roasted Brazilian coffee grinds, water, and sugar. What defines

What’s your fortune?

After you finish your coffee, you can now see your fortune! However, you need a person who knows how to read your coffee grinds and can interpret them for you. First, you flip the plate on top of your cup to cover it then stir it around then flip the cup with the plate upside down then give it to your fortune teller to interpret your fortune. Turkish coffee fortune telling is so important to Turkish people that there’s an app that reads your fortune and it has 2 million active users daily!
